Sardinia & Sicily Rock Climbing – Climb, Sun, Beach!

Visiting one of the Italian islands is a great opportunity to combine rock climbing with a crystal blue sea and bright sunshine. A welcoming Italian atmosphere invites you to a rich cultural and historical experience, stunning nature, a traditional high quality cuisine.

Adventurous Rock Climbing on Sardinia, Italy

Thanks to its wild and spectacular rocky interior and coastline, Sardinia has developed a strong rock climbing culture. Great weather though out the year, high quality limestone, and amazing beaches makes it a perfect destination for rock climbing adventures in combination with a sunny holiday.

The mountainous island offers a wide variety of sport and adventure climbing. Some crags are generously bolted and suitable for starting to climb on lead and for developing multi-pitch skills, but many places demands more commitment in remote locations. If you have some experience with rock climbing already we have more possibilities on Sardinia.

We find all types of lime-stone routes; steep, slabby or vertical walls, climbing in massive caves, off the beaches or on high cliffs rising straight out of the sea. Naturally protected adventure climbing we find in the limestone gorges. Big wall rock climbing, up to 400m on traditional gear is available to explore.

Keen climbers also have the option of the seaside bouldering, and deep water soloing can be arranged for the brave!

The climbing holiday is based in Cala Gonone, a climbing town on the east coast of Sardinia. Other than rock climbing Cala Gonone has beautiful beaches, plenty of nice restaurants and cafés, and offers great snorkelling and diving among coral reefs.

We recommend accommodation in apartments, hotels or camping. There are climbing areas and surroundings in Cala Gonone that are children and family friendly.

Visiting Sicily is worth is for the food alone! Italien pasta with fresh seafood and fish is mixed with north african couscous dishes, and the patisseries are bought by the kilo!

Exploring the rock climbing around the island we can take part of the rich and unique culture including ancient sites of archeological importance.

The most famous spot for sport climbing is the seaside resort of San Vito Lo Capo on the north-west tip of the island. We find a lot of good crags are within 10 min drive from the town.
